Question by : Do any laptops come with Microsoft Office (Word, PPT, Excel) already on the system?
I need a new laptop and I don’t want to pay extra for Microsoft Office. Is it possible to get a laptop that already has these programs?

Mostly No. You need to buy it separate. New Laptop comes only with 1 month Trial version of Office.

Most will offer you a choice of which MS Office package you’d like to purchase with your laptop but they generally don’t come with the full suite for free. If you don’t specifically need MS Office, take a look at LibreOffice (link below). It’s a free, open source alternative to MS Office with all the same applications.

If you want a free version, download OpenOffice or LibreOffice, they both contain programs similar to word, exel, and powerpoint.

not for free. They currently distribute a “trial” version of MS office that works for awhile then you are supposed to enter a key.

The student version is sort of cheap, try that.

It is possible to buy a laptop with MS Office pre-installed … but you still have to pay extra, it is just accounted for in the initial price.

Dell, for example, let you pick MS Office when you click the Customise & Buy link for one of the laptops on their website.

Most computers don’t come with the full featured suite, and to be honest I doubt there are any out there. However, there are free alternatives such as Libre Office, and some laptops come equipped with Office Starter, the watered down version that lacks certain features.

You are better off buying Office yourself. If you buy it pre-installed your license is for only 1 PC and you are not permitted to move it to another PC if the first PC fails. If you buy Home & Student you have a license for up to 3 installs.

Pre-installed is not necessarily cheaper. Price the version you want on Amazon. If someone in your household is a student, you are probably eligible for educational pricing .

Most new laptops come with w 30 day trial version of MS Office or Word but after the trial you have to purchase it boxed or download using the product key code e mailed to you or in the box to register it.
Try Open Office Suite it is free and comparable too and compatible with MS Office I use both with no problems. http://www.openoffice.org
